SIMMONS, Joel, Sr.
|Johnstown Tribune, 30 Jul 1881, Page Last, Contributed by Lynne Canterbury|
|DEATH OF THE OLDEST RESIDENT OF JACKSON TOWNSHIP|
Mr. Joel Simmons, Sr., whole death is recorded in our obituary column, was the oldest citizen in Jackson Township, by number of years and probably, by term of residence, as our informant thinks he was a resident there at the time the township was organized out of part of Conemaugh Township, about 1829 or 1830. Being a millwright by trade, he was extensively known as well as particularly noted for the accuracy of his workmanship. He was a moral, sober, industrious, and intelligent citizen, and leaves quite a number of descendants who rank among the most respectable citizens in the community in which they reside. He was nearly 91 years of age. Two weeks ago decease attended the funeral of one of his daughters, Mrs. Rose, and appeared to enjoy pretty fair health.
