|Killed at Lilly "Y"|
At 6:30 o'clock on Wednesday morning of last week Gephart Bender, a lad 14 years of age, was killed by being thrown from the bumpers of a coal car under the train at the upper end of the Lilly Y." Young Bender boarded the train for the purpose of riding to his work at the Bear Rock Mine, where he had been employed as a driver. The wheels passed over the unfortunate boy's head and he lived but a few minutes after the accident occurred.
Gebhart Bender, the father of the unfortunate lad, died at Lilly about eight months ago and soon after the boy went to work in the mines to assist his brothers to support their mother. He was obedient to his mother and kind to his associates.
Funeral services were held at the Catholic church at Lilly on Friday morning after which interment was made in the church cemetery.
