|Remarks:||Calvin Blaine Weakland, 60, of Barnesboro died April 24, 1995 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. An autopsy Tuesday showed he died of a neck fracture he received when the garbage truck he was driving crashed Monday near Vintondale, according to Cambria County Coroner Denny Kwiatkowski.
The Jackson Township police said Weakland was going to the Laurel Highlands Landfill when the accident happened around 2 p.m. on Wagner Road. The police said Weakland filed to turn into the landfill and continued down the fairly steep road to a curve, where the truck flipped onto its side.
He was born Sept. 29, 1934, in Barnesboro, a son of Andrew V. and Ruth (Rhodes) Weakland. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald; and infant sister, Lorraine.
Surviving is a brother, Harold, Baltimore, Md., and sisters, Verelda Churella, Whittier, Calif.; and Ada Baker, Norwalk, Calif. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Weakland was a U.S. Air Force veteran, Barnesboro Borough employee, local shop steward for AFSCME. He was an avid sportsman. Member of Mountain Country Sportsmen Club, Sinnamahoning.
Friends will be received today (Thursday) from 7 to 9 p.m., and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Long Contres Funeral Home Inc., Barnesboro, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday by Rev. Peter Foley. Interment, North Barnesboro Cemetery.
