Mrs. Lucinda Shaffer Griffith, wife of Stephen Griffith, died suddenly last night at the Griffith home in Ferndale, in her seventy-third year. She was stricken with paralysis at 8:30 o'clock last evening and died about 11 o'clock. The funeral will take place at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, services to be conducted at the Griffith home by the Rev. Frank Callahan, of the Roxbury Methodist Episcopal Church, of which the deceased was a member. Interment will be made in Grand-View Cemetery.
The deceased was born in Jenner Township, Somerset County, on May 13, 1838, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob M. Shaffer, deceased, and a sister of Jeremiah and Adam Shaffer, of the Seventeenth Ward; George, of Mineral Point; James, of Boswell, and Catherine, wife of George Brown, of Morrellville. She and Stephen Griffith were united in marriage in November, 1859, and made their home in Jenner Township until removing to Ferndale seven years ago. Besides her husband, Mrs. Griffith is survived by nine children and sixteen grandchildren. The sons and daughters are Dr. Harvey M. Griffith, of Conemaugh; Almeda, wife of Henry Rose, of Ferndale; Robert, of Morrellville; Ross, of the Seventeenth Ward; Annie, wife of Robert Schmucker, of Boswell; George, of Morrellville, and Ira, of Ferndale. William L. Griffith, another son, died in Somerset County in 1863. Mrs. Griffith was identified with the Lutheran Church for many years, but transferred her membership to the Roxbury M.E. charge when she came to this vicinity.
