WEAKLAND, Anselm

Anselm Weakland, an old and respected citizen of Elder township, died at his home on Monday, aged seventy years. The deceased was born in Carroll township, March 21, 1833, and was a son of Samuel Weakland, one of the early settlers of Carroll township. On May 8, 1859, he was united in marriage to Matilda Luther, daughter of John Luther, and a sister of Ex-Sheriff Luther. This union was blessed with ten children: Aaron, Walter, Samuel, Amanda, Emma, Molrina, Bennett, Ellen, Edward, and Matilda.

Mr. Weakland in politics was an active Democrat and took a prominent part in the affairs of his party. He was elected and served one term as Poor Director and also one term as Jury Commissioner, filling both offices with credit to himself and party.

His funeral took place on Wednesday at Carrolltown, the remains being interred in St. Benedict's cemetery.
