CHILD BURNED TO DEATH -- A heartrending case occurred on Locust street in this borough, about 7 o'clock on Monday evening. A very beautiful and interesting little child aged about 4 years, daughter of Mr. A. J. Hite, was so shockingly burned by its clothes catching fire as to cause its death on Tuesday morning. As we have been informed, its mother had put it to bed, and stepped into a neighbor's house, leaving a candle burning on a chair, and during her absence the child got out of bed and was amusing itself with the candle, from which its clothes took fire. The cries of the child were heard for several minutes before its perilous condition was discovered. Its mother, we believe, was the first to enter the house, when she found the flames consuming it in the bed to which the poor little thing its frenzy had returned. It is the most heartrending occurrence that has taken place in our borough for years, and the bereaved the afflicted parents have the heartfelt sympathy of all our citizens. The child was exceedingly beautiful and precocious, and was a universal favorite in the locality in which its parents reside.--Echo.
