SHAFFER, Catharine Elizabeth (Draut)
|Johnstown Daily Tribune, 19 Nov 1886, Contributed by Sue Elliott|
|Catharine Elizabeth Shaffer|
About three years ago Mrs. Shaffer was prostrated with an attack of paralysis, and for a long time she was confined to bed. However, in the course of time, she recovered the use of her afflicted limbs almost entirely and apparently enjoyed good health. Her demise, which occurred this morning at half past 6 o'clock, at the home of her husband, George Shaffer, in Stoneycreek Township, near the Seventh Ward line, was the result of a brief illness, and was quite a surprise to most of her friends and acquaintances.
Mrs. Shaffer's maiden name was Draut. She was born in Langt, Hesse-Darmstadt, and came to America thirty-four years ago. In 1864 she and Mr. Shaffer were married in this place. They had born to them twelve children, eight of whom survive. Four of them are married.
Deceased was member of the German Lutheran Church. Rev. H. Veith will conduct services at the house at 1 o'clock on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Shaffer's exact age was forty-nine years nine months and eighteen days.
Her acquaintances speak well of her, and say that she endeavored to discharge all the duties of life faithfully and earnestly.
