Michael Strong, a well-known and highly esteemed citizen of Strongstown, Indiana County, died at his residence at that place, of general debility, on Sunday, January 3d, aged 76 years, four months, and twenty-six days.
Mr. Strong was born in Buffington Township, Indiana County, August 7, 1827, and in the year 1859 he removed to the farm at Strongstown where he resided until the of his death. On the 4th of January 1859, he was married to Julian Hayes, who yet survives him, with the following children: Samuel J., of Coopersdale; Amos L., of South Fork; Isaac M., at home, Mrs. J. S. Miller, of Bolivar, and Mrs. Dr. J. Mardis, of South Fork.
Mr. Strong was of a large and widely-connected family, and the following brothers are living: Samuel, of Tyrone, Pa.; George, of Strongstown, and Henry, of Nolo, Indiana County.
He was an industrious, frugal man all his long life, and in all his dealings with his fellow-man was the very soul of integrity and honesty. When he was but three weeks old he was baptized by the late Rev. N. G. Sharretts, then Lutheran pastor at Brushvalley Lutheran Church. He was admitted to full membership in the Lutheran Church at Strongstown January 7, 1866, and he lived a consistent member of the same congregation to the time of his death. The funeral took place to-day, with services in the Lutheran Church at Strongstown, the Rev. J. Milton Snyder officiating, interment being made in the new cemetery at that place.
