Mrs. Alice Crawford
GALLITZIN -– Mrs. Alice (DeHaven) Crawford, 79, widow of Robert Crawford, died yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. E. Howell of 319 Craig St. She was a daughter of Wesley and Elizabeth (Kerns) DeHaven and was born in Hollidaysburg on Sept. 29, 1864. Her husband died in 1935 and a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Risbon, died nine months ago. Surviving are five children – John, Cleveland, O.; Mrs. Elizabeth Olnhausen, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Catherine Schulz, Altoona; Mrs. Mary Howell, mentioned, and Mrs. Hazel Begandy, Rochester, N.Y. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two brothers, Albert DeHaven, Gallitzin, and Harry DeHaven, Altoona.
Friends are being received at the Howell home. A requiem high mass will be celebrated at 9 o’clock Tuesday morning at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church by Rev. Father Joseph Farren. Interment will be in the church cemetery under the direction of H. F. Conrad & Bro., local morticians.

JAMES KAUFMAN HOME ON LEAVE
Marine Hero Weds North Carolina Girl
BOSWELL -- Staff Sgt. and Mrs. James W. Kaufman, whose marriage took place July 16 at Cove City, N.C. are visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Kaufman of Jenners Twp.
Sgt. Kaufman, three times cited for gallantry during more than two years of action against the Japanese in the South Pacific, will return to duty with the Marine Corps next Saturday at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Cal. Mrs. Kaufman is the former Lillian Blanche Heath of Cove City.
The couple were married by Rev. M. L. Kaufman, brother of the bridgroom and pstor of theSalix-Elton Evengelical charge. Cpl. Elwin E. Nicholson of Somerset, who is stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., was best Man. Mrs. Algie Mishler of Benscreek, sister of Sgt. Kaufman, was pianist.
Sgt. Kaufman entered the Marine Corps four years ago, soon after his gaduation from Boswell High School. He received the Silver Star twice for repairing vital communication lines during fighting on Guadalcanal and was cited a third time for establishing contact between rear and advanced units during action at Cape Gloucester, New Britain. The medals were pinned on his uniform by his sister, Lt. Mary E. Kaufman of the Army Nurse Corps, who was stationed at a base hospital in the South Pacific.
PORTAGE YOUTHS ARE SENTENCED IN THEFT CASES
2 Sent to Camp Hill; Soldier Ordered to Pay in Assault Case
EBENSBURG -- Two Portage youths this morning were sentenced to the Pennsylvania Industrial School at Camp Hill after they pleaded guilty to three charges of burglary. The defendants are Clarence Kalasoski and Elmer Richardson, both 22 years old.
The two were charged with the theft of two trucks from the New Peerless Dairy in Portage, $1.14 from a cash box at the Pennsylvania Railroad freight station at Portage, and a revolver, first-aid kit and light bulbs from the garage of Rev. George R. Strayer, D.D., also of Portage.
The court was advised that the two defendants had previously served terms in the Pennsylvania Industrial School at Huntingdon and that Kalasoski formerly was a member of the armed forces but was discharged.
PFC. JAMES OHLER
Missing
QUECREEK -- Pfc. James Ohler, 24, has been missing in action with the armed forces in France since D-Day on June 6, the War Department informed his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ohler of Quecreek. The Somerset County soldier has been stationed in England since September, 1942, preparing for the assault upon Fortress Europe.

COULTER-RAMER
SALISBURY -- Miss Ethel E. Ramer, a former resident and school teacher here, and John A. Coulter of Brooklyn, N.Y., were married on Nov. 26 at the Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stoneleigh, Md. Rev. Roland W. Renkle officiated. Mrs. Coulter is a graduate of the local high school and is a daughter of the late H. W. Ramer, who was principal of Salisbury High School for many years.

South Fork -- A quiet candle-light ceremony performed Saturday in the South Fork Methodist Church joined in wedlock Miss Margaret Vaughn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Vaughn of Cresson, and Robert M. Norris, storekeeper third class in the U. S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Norris of South Fork.
MRS. MARY WILHELM IS
HONORED; 89 YEARS OLD
A surprise party was held on Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Mary Wilhelm, rear 240 Lincoln St., in celebration of her 89th birthday anniversary. A luncheon was served and the honor guest received a number of gifts.
Those present were Mrs. Christine Long, William Wilhelm, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kennedy, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wilhelm, Mrs. Margaret Hunter, Mrs. Carl Pollacek, and son Charles, Emma Jerasa and Margaret Jerasa.
WED 50 YEARS CHRISTMAS DAY

A family dinner yesterday, following open house on Sunday marked the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harry H. Griffith (above) of Vinco, lifelong residents of the district. Mr. Griffith, employed by the State Department of Health for 24 years, retired several years ago, but is still engaged as a health officer in various communities on the area.
ROBERT PICKING,
ARDMORE, DIES
Robert R. Picking, 56, former Johnstowner and member of a well-known Somerset and Johnstown family, died on Saturday morning at his home in Ardmore, where he had been a merchant for many years.
Mr. Picking was born in Somerset, a son of the late Jacob Sr. and Maria (Imhoff) Picking. He was an accountant here for a number of years before moving to Ardmore.
Mr. Picking leaves his widow, the former Mary Braugh, and these brothers and sisters -- Barnet J., 345 Tioga St., Westmont, who retired recently after being a cashier for the Bethlehem Steel Company for many years; H. M. Picking, 514 Somerset St., local mortician; Jay S., Somerset druggist, and Joseph; Miss Florence Picking and Mrs. Marian Grove, also of Somerset.
The deceased will be removed to Somerset, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hoffman Mortuary by Rev. J. F. Messenger. Interment will be in the Husband Cemetery at Somerset.
