Gallaher / Douglass Cemetery
Allegheny Township
Cambria County, Pennsylvania

Data provided by Kitty Shryock Hood

This is a listing of all visible inscriptions on all stones as of April 2000. The present owner of the land has fenced the field surrounding the cemetery and has cows on the property. He has fenced the cemetery to protect it from the cows. The present owner says that when he purchased the land in 1980 there were more stones than are presently in the cemetery. He does not know who took the missing stones or where they are now.

Two stones known to be from this cemetery were moved in 1978 to the Quota plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Yoakum, Lavaca Co., TX. Inscriptions on those stones are:

1. In memory of / John Douglass / who departed this life / December 15th AD 1831 / in the 73rd year of his age
2. In memory of / Jane Douglass / who departed this life / April 24th AD 1829 / in the 59th year of her age

The stones in this cemetery are not in their original placements. I believe they were placed in 4 rows in 1990 when the cemetery was cleaned and restored. All stones are white except the first two stones in row 2 and the stone at the end of row 4.

Directions: Southwest of Amsbry, Gallitzin Twp., Cambria Co., PA going south on hiway 53 from Amsbry, turn right on Spindley Road. Follow it to the 'T' in the road and turn left on Back Road. Go about a mile to the intersection of Back Road and Link Road. the cemetery is on a hill northwest of that intersection.
