BYERS COUPLE CELEBRATE 50TH
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Byers of Johnstown observed their 50th wedding anniversary June 24 with a celebration at the West Jackson Township Community Building, attended by over 90 family members and friends.
Mr. Byers and the former Eileen Weaverling were married June 24, 1945, in Johnstown Grace Brethren Church by the Rev. Archie Lynn.
Mr. Byers was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Johnstown, son of the late Howard and Emma (Carlson) Byers.
Mrs. Byers was born May 15, 1925, in Johnstown, daughter of the late William and Florence (Lohr) Weaverling.
Prior to their retirement, Mrs. Byers was a medical secretary at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, and Mr. Byers was an employee of Griffith Custer Steel Corp. During the summer months he occasionally operates a trolley at Orbisonia and both volunteer at the museum there.
The couple are members of Pike Grace Brethren Church, Mundys Corner, and Railway to Yesterday. Mrs. Byers also is a member of the West Jackson Township Homemakers. She likes to crochet in her spare time and her husband enjoys woodworking.
The couple has three children: Sharon, wife of Jerry Varner, Mineral Point; Frederick, married to the former Debbie Rummel, Johnstown R. D. 8; and David, married to former Shirley Hunt, Glen Burnie, Md.
There are six grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
