1294 PRESIDENTS, SOLDIERS, STATESMEN.

and was born May 24, 1836, in Fulton county, Pa., and passed to her reward Aug. 27, 1884. As the fruit of this marriage three children were born, Francis, Cyrus dec., and Sarah. Comrade Varner served a short time in the Union army during the late civil war. He had been engaged in farming and was 44 years of age at the time of his enlistment, which occurred at Hollidaysburg, Pa., as a private in Co. A, 56 Pa. V.I. May, 1865, he was confined in hospital at Philadelphia, Pa., 10 days suffering with fever. In the spring of 1865 he was detailed to guard commissary three days. Owing to his late enlistment, he did not take part in any regular battle, and was honorably discharged July 1, 1865, at Washington, D.C. His wife's brothers, Cyrus and Christ, served in Pa. Regts. Comrade Varner is living in retirement, and his address is Elton, Pa.

MICHAEL WADSWORTH,

Son of John and Catherine Wadsworth, dec., was born April 8, 1842. He was married Aug. 23, 1868, in Huston twp., Cambria county, Pa., to Sarah Cline, who was born in Center county, Pa., Dec 25, 1852. Her father, Wm. Cline, is living in Center county, Pa. Their hearthstone has been graced with 11 children, Catherine dec., Barbara M., Anna S., John D., Mary A., Clara M., Jessie C., M.B., Calvin R., Lorena and Ellen. Comrade Wadsworth was 21 years of age when he decided to fight for his country. He was enrolled Sept 20, 1864, as a private in Co. A, 51 Pa. V.I. He was never wounded or in hospital, but was constantly on duty with his command, taking part in all battles. He was honorably discharged June 2, 1865, at Alexandria, Va. Comrade Wadsworth passed from the shores of time March 14, 1890, near Conemaugh, Pa. His widow has a pension and her address is Summerhill, Pa.

ALEXANDER WALKER,

Whose parents, Benjamin and Catherine (Row) Walker, are dec., was born in Rayne twp., Indiana county, Pa., April 4, 1836. His wife, whom he married in 1863 in this county, is Hannah, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Stump) Rowe, dec. She was born in East Mahoning twp., this county, April 28, 1844. Ten children constitute this family, Margretta, born Sept. 12, 1844, George R., B. June 22, 1866, d. Jan. 20, 1867; Celia L., b. Feb. 28, 1868, Alexander M., b. March 20, 1871, d. Sept. 20, 1873, Dessie, b. April 18, 1874, died Sept. 13, 1874, Lottie L, b. June 18, 1875, d. Feb. 29, 1892, Benjamin, b. May 12, 1877, Abraham T., b. March 10, 1882, David, b. Nov. 20, 1884, d.
